Portable Kanban

You can use this page to download the Portable Kanban task management tool developed by Dmitry Ivanov and originally available on his personal page http://dmitryivanov.net (link updated, as it looks like Dmitry’s website is down)

The download link below is shared with permission from Dmitry himself.

Portable Kanban is a completely free and portable, native, Windows only application that I use daily to manage my personal work related tasks.

What I like about it:

  • Works offline
  • Instantly responsive – no need to wait for a page to load
  • Very customisable – you can organise categories, add custom fields, etc.

  1. Just wondering what happened to Dimitri. I’ve used his program for years, and was surprised to see the website down. Since you have his permission to share the applicaiton, I was wondering if you knew what happened.

  2. Hi, I have been using this tool for a long time now and was very happy with it. But now something broke my pk3-file. Do you have any idea how to find out what the problem is and if/how it can be fixed? When starting the tool I get the following error message:

“Failed to load or recover data from file: xyz
Type definitions should start with a ‘{‘, expecting serialized type ‘Cache’, got string starting with:”

There is no more info, log or anything.

When closing this dialog, I get another one:

“Data file is locked by another instance of Portable Kanban. Try to restart once again later.”

Apparently the lock file is created when trying to open the broken file and the first error message is displayed. It disappears again when closing the second error dialog. Deleting it in between does not help either.

Do know if I can somehow look into the pk3 file to to maybe fix the error manually? I only have a local installation. it would be nice to at least get a list of the open tasks.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks Edgars for making this available 🙂
What ever happened to Dmitry’s webpage? (or online presence in general…)

  4. Thanks for this. I’ve been using this tool for a few years now. I think it’s an amazing piece of work. Far better than the likes of Trello or Jira for personal use.

  5. Hi, Edgars,

what happened to Dmitry? It looks that his personal site is gone… I was using his Kanban solution, sad to see that such a great project is totally gone…
